We founded Stilfisher Records to release our own music, our friends’ music, and the music of strangers if it's really, really good. Stiltfisher will never release music from artists known to be racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, or similarly bigoted. The focus of the label is heavy noise rock that blurs the lines between sludge, doom, instrumental metal, post-punk, post-hardcore, math, post-metal, and adjacent genres. We do, however, love certain pockets of indie rock, and appreciate a good pop song.
Stiltfisher Records is currently a one-person operation. The name comes from a brief noise-rock band I was in around 2017 called Stiltfisher. Scott Shickler played drums, Jeffrey McNuly played the low guitar, and I played the high guitar and sang. Since we haven’t used the name in years, I adopted it for the label.
Why would a band want to work with Stiltfisher?
Well, right now the main reason is that we can front the costs of mastering songs, manufacturing CDs and vinyl, and an agreed upon amount of promotion. Depending on the circumstances, Stiltfisher might be able to help with recording and tour expenses. All expenses are transparent. Stiltfisher recoups the fronted money from sales of CDs and vinyl. Any profit beyond that is split between Stiltfisher and the band. We don’t want your copyright, and we don’t want to lock you into a contract. We like folks who are serious about their bands, but that don’t take themselves too seriously.
